Learning Some 2D

Introduction

After having built some levels of some areas from a D&D campaign some friends and I were playing, I decided that I wanted to learn a bit about world-building I decided that seeing how scale wasn't working out for me, that going back into the land of 2D might help me.

Game World

So I started out building a house. I wanted the world to be a mix of modern life with a fantasy setting. The starting house I feel like having the art style that I chose, mixed with the pizza and microwave really pushes this idea across. You would then leave the starting home and enter the starting town. The starting town The idea was that this would be a small farming town. Each of the houses has interiors and people to speak to. Speaking to a person who quit their job for Bitcoin Despite this being mostly a world-building exercise I still couldn't help but put some other technical problems in there too. I added the ability to talk to different people with the X key. Most don't have much to say. But some things are funny. You could then walk out of the two by going up the top of the map. You can press the shift key to "run" (more like a normal walking speed). Above the town And there were many other places to explore.

Sound

This was also the first project I added sound to. Footsteps had sounded, and there was a music backtrack. This was my first time using Unity's sound system and decided that it would be easier to figure out on a smaller project such as this. To make it more complicated for myself I decided that I should separate out the music and sound effects. Sound Settings Menu You can find these settings after pressing escape.

Conclusion

To be honest, looking back on this I'm still proud of what I managed to do at the time. I feel like this was a really good start into designing (even though it's only 2D) and I was happy with how the music does change how the project feels.
